About Me

I read non-fiction, watch documentaries, and draw pictures. I might sneak in some skyrim on occasion too. But that's all I do.

There is no label of severely mentally ill in the mental health community.

That's why it doesn't fly in court. And it's a complete judgement by the people that say it. Am I "severely" mentally ill? You cannot say either way whether or not I am with any information I might give you. Am I mediocre, or in high need? Again, even I can't even say.

This is what it sounds like to me, just to give a little perspective...

'Too many people have cancer, we should stop treating them so much.' Or 'way too many people have heart surgery, we should find other options for clogged arteries.'

Without trying to see if a medicine does work or not. Without even trying to diagnose and find the proper treatment that will work. You do not walk in the same shoes as others when it comes to your depression. Each is a case by case basis. Why even mention the vitamin D thing as a "it could work for you!" type message? It does look like a message for all depressed people just in case, as if we don't get enough of false hope. This is the part I see most, "but generally the cure is sunlight and vitamin D" along with the word depression. I'm surely not the only person who misread it.

But I just have to say. You'd think you'd know already. You know there is out-patient groups that take the entire holistic approach? Right?

Surprise! They already do holistic approaches. Gah. I didn't go to out-patient and was forced outside to "be mindful" for nothing. They also had a cardio group in psychward, as well as doing art, boardgames and so on. NAMI groups generally helps you figure how things are amiss. They don't believe that only pills work. Can I make that clearer? People usually go to therapists before ever going to a doctor for their struggles. What do therapists do? I'll just let you guess on that one.

The Japanese have a word on book hoarding.

It was on a crosswalk.

I admit, I'm really excited.

Now there's a good reason to push myself harder as far as reading books goes. And hopefully make new friends along the way.

I would like to run for host of this group, in order to make it a more vibrant part of DU.

What should be my favorite group on DU is rather inactive, and that's just disastrous in my eyes. I want to advertise this group around a bit and have reading goals (read 50-100 books a year?) and a book club with one book a month. I also hope to help people who want to know about certain books or topics.

What makes me qualified: I have unlimited time on my hands, and I live by a library and I own a large (mostly non-fiction) personal library.   I use a lot of my time to read non-fiction, you could practically call me a fanatic. I also read eclectic topics. From Galileo to Sesame Street, Nixon to the Beatles. You name the book and I can gain access to it. I've also kept track of every book I've read since I was 16, which comes in handy sometimes. I hope this group will kick off. Peace.

Everyone is welcome here.

To counteract some confusion: there was a change of leadership, and this is partially why there are two new groups called History of Feminism and Feminism and Diversity. I recently handed off my leadership. Thanks for reading.

Edited to update.

Diablo III Auction House

Anyone use it yet?

Women warriors and underwear.

For once I'd like to see a video game without the use of belly buttons, cleavage, and only slivers of cloth over the characters big ass buttcheeks.

Tell me if you find one... The unknown videogame, not the buttcheeks.

Brewer signs birth control exemption

PHOENIX - Arizona businesses that designate themselves as a "religiously affiliated employer" will no longer have to include contraception in the insurance coverage they provide for their workers.
Gov. Jan Brewer has signed legislation to broaden an exemption to a 2002 law prohibiting businesses that provide prescription drugs as part of their health-insurance plans from excluding birth control pills.

"In its final form, this bill is about nothing more than preserving religious freedom to which were all constitutionally entitled," Brewer said in a prepared statement. "Mandating that a religious institution provide a service in direct contradiction with its faith would represent an obvious encroachment upon the First Amendment."

I'm The Smart One, She's The Pretty One

The other day my friend Christopher, who has not met my sister, offered me an analysis of our relationship.

“You know,” he said. “You’re one of those sibling pairs where one of you is the bombastic one and one of you is the dry sardonic one. You’re the bombastic one.”

Okay, so A) no, I was not aware of that apparently standard method of classifying siblings. But also B) Christopher is one of my freelancers, meaning that B1) it’s in his professional interest to not piss me off and B2) he is pretty well aware that being sardonic is my day job. So why does my sister get to be “the sardonic one”? The hell?
