Lawmaker Calls For Sanctions Against NFL Player Over Marriage Support (Read the reply!)

MARYLAND: Lawmaker Calls For Sanctions Against NFL Player Over Marriage Support

"I find it inconceivable that one of your players, Mr. Brendon Ayanbadejo would publicly endorse Same-Sex marriage, specifically as a Raven Football player. Many of my constituents and your football supporters are appalled and aghast that a member of the Ravens Football Team would step into this controversial divide and try to sway public opinion one way or the other. I am requesting that you take the necessary action, as a National Football League Owner, to inhibit such expressions from your employees and that he be ordered to cease and desist such injurious actions. I know of no other NFL player who has done what Mr. Ayanbadejo is doing." - Maryland Rep. Emmett Burns, in a letter to the Ravens' owner.

Mr. Ayanbadejo tweeted this in reply:
Football is just my job it's not who I am. I am an American before anything. And just like every American I have the right to speak!!!

4. Ah, the knuckle-dragger Burns

This is the same troglodyte who denounced any comparison between black rights and gay rights by stating that not enough gays have been murdered for their equality to "count."

1-800-492-7122x3352 is a toll-free number for his office, by the way. As soon as I get back from the Persian Gulf, I'm suggesting that he keep his ignorant mouth shut next time he wants to punish private citizens for political speech.

5. Here's Burns' profile, btw. . .

http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/msa12194.html

Sounds like he's insecure about his own masculinity and/or sexuality, otherwise he wouldn't pop off the way he did.

Besides, if Brendon Ayanbadejo plays at Pro Bowl/All-Pro level this season, Burns will probably sing a different tune.

6. But THIS is okay? Tim Tebow Shoots Super Bowl Ad for Anti-Gay Focus on the Family

Tim Tebow Shoots Super Bowl Ad for Anti-Gay Focus on the Family

Tim Tebow, the University of Florida quarterback known to inscribe Bible verses into his eye black, has shot a commercial for anti-gay Christian group Focus on the Family set to air during the Super Bowl. The likely message of the ad, which he shot with his mother, is anti-abortion:

"Pam Tebow contacted amoebic dysentery while on a Philippines mission, and the bacterial infection sent her into a coma. Upon recovery, doctors urged Pam to have an abortion because of the damage to her body. Tebow was born healthy on Aug. 14, 1987... Jim Daly, Focus on the Family president and chief executive officer, said in a statement that the Tebows’ message about family comes at the right moment in the culture because 'families need to be inspired.' The commercial was shot in Orlando. 'Tim and Pam share our respect for life and our passion for helping families thrive,' Daly said. 'Focus on the Family is about … strengthening families by empowering them with the tools they need to live lives rooted in morals and values.' Super Bowl ads are expected to run around $2.8 million dollars for the 100 million viewers. But the Tebows produce financial draw."

Focus on the Family donated $727,000 to the Proposition 8 campaign to ban same-sex marriage in California. Its founder, James Dobson, has been outspoken against gay issues, most recently the federal hate crimes bill.

The ad is the first Super Bowl ad in FoF's history.
