(ABC) Bribes, Chinese Mob Ties Alleged at Casino of Gingrich Money Man (Sheldon Adelson)

Bribes, Chinese Mob Ties Alleged at Casino of Gingrich Money Man

January 27, 2012

The casino company run by the principal financial backer of Newt Gingrich's presidential bid, Sheldon Adelson, has been under criminal investigation for the last year by the Department of Justice and the Securities Exchange Commission for alleged bribery of foreign officials, according to corporate documents.

In a separate civil lawsuit, a former executive of the company has alleged that Adelson ordered him to keep quiet about sensitive issues at the Sands casinos on the Chinese island of Macau, including the casinos' alleged "involvement with Chinese organized crime groups, known as Triads, connected to the junket business." The triads -- Chinese organized crime syndicates -- are allegedly involved in organizing high stakes gambling junkets for wealthy Chinese travelers.

In its filings with the SEC, Adelson's company says it became aware of the investigation in February 2011 when it received a subpoena from the SEC requesting "documents relating to its compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act." The company said it "intends to cooperate with the investigation," which it said may have been triggered by the allegations in the lawsuit by Steven C. Jacobs, a former Sands executive who says he helped run the Macau operation. The federal investigation was first reported last year by Las Vegas newspapers and the financial press.

At a gaming forum last year, Adelson said the lawsuit "is not a serious case" and that the federal investigations would find no wrongdoing. "When the smoke clears, I am 1,000 percent positive that there won't be any fire below it."

Lansky, and the Chicago Mob. The real money in the Mafia has moved offshore, just like the rest of American industry.

But, I could've told you that. Actually, I did:

1. The Cotai Strip in Macau is the project that broke Sheldon Adelson.

Sheldon Adelson, owner of Sands Corp, lost 95% of his wealth last year, about $30 billion, much of it lost in Macau, according to Forbes. That loss is right up there with Madoff's scheme.

Vegas has been the center of high-risk finance, and when Wall Street melted-down, Vegas burned to the ground. Or, was the "market contagion" the other way around?

There is a major connection between the two biggest American money centers that is not often acknowledged and little studied. GOOGLE "Mafia Wall Street" and "Vegas Wall Street". There's not much recent serious work on the subject.

Adelson was also a primary bankroller for Freedom's Watch, a right-wing propaganda organization. Freedom's Watch funders include: "Anthony Gioia, a Buffalo businessman who was Bush's ambassador to Malta; Kevin Moley, who was Bush's ambassador to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva; Howard Leach, a former Republican National Committee finance chairman who was Bush's ambassador to France; Dr. John Templeton of Pennsylvania, chairman and president of the John Templeton Foundation; Ed Snider, chairman of Comcast Spectacor, the huge Philadelphia sports and entertainment firm; Sheldon Adelson, chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. and ranked by Forbes magazine as the third-wealthiest American; and Richard Fox, who is chairman of the Jewish Policy Center and was Pennsylvania State Chairman of the Reagan/Bush campaign in 1980." Source: Rightwatch

Adelson is, of course, a "beard" for a circle of corrupt, Right-wing Wall St. operators with ties to the intelligence community, a circle that includes Carl Lindner, Charles Keating and Junk Bond King Mike Milken, also long-time McCain backers. When his bankers went belly-up, McCain's chances were finished.

The public should get a view into the background of Lindner, Keating and McCain, which essentially boils down to big Mafia money that has flowed into the GOP and various extreme Rightist groups around the world since Meyer Lansky made a deal with the Republicans in the mid-1940s.In exchange for their legalized gambling and liquor concessions, Top Bosses Lansky and Giancana straightened up the mob's image in the southwest, in exchange the GOP (along with elements of the CIA) got a piece of the action. maybe R. Emmett Tyrell was right about Clinton and Gingrich being both equally crooked (American Spectator column "Our Bill Clinton").

The investigation grew out of a lawsuit filed by the former president of Sands Macau -- hired by Adelman himself.

Gingrich's billionaire campaign backer under federal investigation after lawsuit alleges he hushed possible ties to Chinese organized crime

By Michael Zennie
The Daily Mail (UK)
Last updated at 10:18 PM on 28th January 2012

EXCERPT...

The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice began looking into Las Vegas Sands Corp. as a result of allegations about its practices at Sands Macau casino and hotel, which operates on the Chinese island that has become the largest gambling mecca in the world, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Jacobs, who ran the resort, says in his lawsuit that he was wrongly fired from the company after he objected to allegedly illegal actions that he was asked to perform.

Among them: Jacobs claims Adelson wanted him to hire a Chinese lawyer to dig up 'negative information' on local Macau officials that the company could use as leverage, the Sun reported.

SNIP...

Reuters reported in 2010 that alleged triad crime boss Cheung Chi-tai, who was connected with a junket to the Sands Macau, was running one of the VIP rooms at the casino, according to witnesses.
